How Can Diarrhea After A Colonoscopy Be Treated?

I had a colonoscopy. and since then my bowel movements have been very loose. I went to a specialist and first they are given me an antibiotic to take. Three times a day for ten days. I also am taking metamusial for the fiber. There is only a little difference in my bowel movements. I no longer have the gas which is good. What is your opinion? Thank You

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Loose stool is seen in some people following colonoscopy. It is a self limiting condition and it will resolve by it own even without any treatment. It takes around three to four days to settle. In some individuals it may take up to two weeks for complete remission. Eat a low fiber diet 2 to 3 days after your colonoscopy to slow down bowel movements. Probiotics like Vizylac may provide some symptomatic relief. If the symptoms persist long, you have to start antisecretory drugs like Racecadotril.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
