Hi,I am Dr. Alexander H. Sheppe (Psychiatrist). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I am a recently retired professional baseball player. I always wanted to make a career out of playing baseball and unfortunately that is not going to happen. I don't have a problem accepting that; however, I struggle to find the motivation everyday I feel I need to find a new career and make something of it. I feel that I sleep too much. I wouldn't consider myself depressed, but I do think I have some symptoms of depression. What can I do?
I went through your details. Feeling yourself demotivated is mostly due to two factors. One lack of proper goal or goal directed behavior. Second, disappointment or setbacks during the course of passage to the goal. In your case, it is due to second reason. Setbacks do come in any path. There is nothing to get disappointed because there is always another chance. If you are retired due to some physical problems and cannot restart, then it is something you have to accept. It will take time to adjust and till then nothing to worry. Keep yourself busy in creative tasks.
