How Can Constipation After A Recent Pile Surgery Be Treated?

Hi there, I seem to have a problem emptying my bowels. I get the urge to go to the toilet but I really struggle to push anything out even though I can feel it there. I have just recently undergone surgery to remove an external pile & I'm worried it may return if I start straining. I would be very grateful for your advice- I have tried everything to try & relieve this.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Constipation is normal after surgery. I recommend using stool softeners and over the counter Laxative option such as Miralax. I suggest you drink liquids and use a fibre-rich diet. If the symptoms continue you can use enemas.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
