How Can Constant Cough In A Child Be Treated?

My 6yr old daughter has continuous cough (for every 10 - 15 seconds) last blood test reveals that high neutrophils (62%) and high ESR (65 mm/ Hr). She has got throat swab but as per latest test report says that no pus cells and occasional epithelial cells and no visible bactreia seen. Chest x-rays is clear. I am really worrying about her cough. Please tell me about her condition

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

According to her test results, she isn't suffering any bacterial infection or pneumonia. The raised neutrophils and ERS levels may be a sign of inflammation due to any viral bronchitis. Viral bronchitis is a viral acute infection. If this is happening often during a year it may be allergic bronchitis and is a chronic condition.

You can give her ketotifen to reduce inflammation and cough. Try to avoid smoking, smoke and pollution that may trigger allergic bronchitis. If it is acute viral infection it goes away in five days without requiring treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.\
