How Can Congestive Heart Failure Be Treated?

My dad has CHF. He had his 1st Open Heart Surgery 20 yrs ago, and then Nov. 2015 he had another Open Heart Surgery, and they could only do 3 bypass (wanted to do 5). In Nov. 2016 they put in a pacemaker and he has been in the hospital twice with CHF, and I think he is back in it again. They are giving him 40 mg of Laxik per day, can I increase that to help get the fluid down.

Hi,

Angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACE inhibitors) open up narrowed blood vessels to improve blood flow. Vasodilators are another option if you cannot tolerate ACE inhibitors.

You may be prescribed one of the following:
benazepril (Lotensin)
captopril (Capoten)
enalapril (Vasotec)
fosinopril (Monopril)
lisinopril (Zestril)
quinapril (Accupril)
ramipril (Altace)
moexipril (Univasc)
perindopril (Aceon)
trandolapril (Mavik).

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Monish De,
