How Can Cold And Cough Be Treated?

I have benzonatate 200 mg capsules that were prescribed to me in 2012. The bottle does not have an expiration date. I have a bad cold that is settling in my check I have coughed for 2 days now and am thinking of taking this with wal-act (walgreens generic form of actifed) I have been taking the wal-act for about 3 nights and taking nothing during the day. I m about to take my temp to see if I have fever.
