Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
I had 4 TIAs over 4days, lasting 90 second to 5 minutes. After the perfusion study they found I have 30% blockage in main artery in neck and 60% upward to my brain they were not able to put a stent in but suggested brain surgery, by that they want move my artery to side and trick my brain into growing another one is this safe?
See every surgery will have their own pros and cons. For example, I give you. One patient came for thyroidectomy. Since we couldn't intubate him on the table, we lost the patient even though with best expertise. Even though, we had told him its neck surgery and many more complications we just can't explain to him bad of the bad things happened, which are not even less than 1% of the population. So in your case, it is neck surgery, and you are getting anastomosis of the branch and it's better you get it done, or if it gets worse, you are even more at risk. If you get it done, and everything is better then you can lead your normal life. Hope you understand both pros and cons and even you ask once more if surgery is really required and then go ahead weighing risk-benefit ratio.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Archana
