How Can Chronic Osteoarthritis Be Treated?

Hi Doc, I am a 46 year old USMC Veteran. My Osteoarthritis is so bad in every joint in my body and the bones. that narcotics in any amount do not help the pain. I will get attacks in all the joints and bones that is so severe I cannot move. The pain will subside just enough that I can hobble and I will urinate every 5 minutes for hours and have to drink constantly to keep hydrated. I get hypothermic and have to self induce a fever under my sheets or in a scalding hot bath that most people can t stand for it to stop. Then I will sleep for an hour or two because I am so exhausted from the attack. What is this???? I go to the VA in Loma Linda, California and see the pain clinic, rheumatology, and infectious diseases and no one can tell me what the attack is. I get epidurals in my back, hip, and elbows and definitely need more but they say only 4 a year. They help alot but not during the attack. I have diabetes, glaucoma, osteoarthritis, and severe spinal canal stenosis in my lumbar and sacral vertabrae. I am also Bipolar but have been on meds since I was 30...no deppresion or mania for 16 years. I became bipolar after I hit my head really bad in an accident when I was 30. I also, had a gun explode in my hand and was DOA for 1minute 36 seconds and all that happened afterward is 10 years of complete memory loss. Overall I am healthy take insulin and eat right. I make myself exercise because it does help with the arthritis but most of the time I can t even walk. Since the gun exploded in my hand in 2009 I have lost the use of my left hand. Any ideas its been 16 years with no answers. Thank-you, Bill

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

You can take injection of Zoledronic Acid which can help you in reduction of pain episodes. Discuss about this with your orthopedician.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
