How Can Chronic Diarrhea And Abdominal Cramps Be Treated?

I am travelling in Singapore and have had severe diahorea for 5 days with stomach cramps and serious fatigue. I pressume it to be food poisoning but it shows no signs of letting up. I continued to eat as normal which never worked so I starved myself for a full day then ate plain food and still no let up. I m currently taking Malorone for malaria prevention and have a contraceptive implant. What do I do to alleviate my symptoms as my trip is being ruined

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

There is no need for fasting while having diarrhea. You have stomach infection and that is called gastroenteritis. You can be prescribed broad spectrum antibiotic empirically. Probiotic tablet can also be prescribed to replace normal gut Flora. Your fatigue is due to loss of fluid and electrolytes. For that, maintain hydration with lots of water and ORS like powder. I suggest you to investigate with stool routine micro examination.
