How Can Chronic Cough Be Treated?

I m worried about my 88 year old mom. She had gone to the doc and got 5 days of antibiotics. They are done now and they said the will work for 5 more days, but her cough is still rough. Exray said her lungs are clear. I ve gotten her Musinex DM and Musinex D. The DM helps her sleep at night will no coughing. Should she have the D in the day? Should I get her robitussin cough suppressant? She is on high blood medicine? She s tired. what should I expect, and besides a vaprorizer and hot tea is there anything else?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

I appreciate your concern. The antibiotic that was prescribed is most likely to be Azithromycin. If she has fever (high grade) and productive cough despite the antibiotics course then the choice should be reviewed and combination therapy or changing to a Quinolone like Moxifloxacin would be the preferable choice, in consultation with your doctor.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammad Sareer Khalil
