Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Good evening. I m wondering what I should do overnight since my doctor is closed and I am having a severe flare-up of my chronic back pain. I spent the morning playing with my 4 year old neighbor while babysitting that has caused the flare up more likely than not. I am a 33 year old female. I have a herniated disc at L5 S1 with referred nerve pain down both legs. I do not have loss of bladder control or anything like that so I don t really think the emergency room is the best option, but the pain is almost crippling. The problem is I use the VA for my health care I am a hundred percent disabled veteran. If I go to the VA emergency room I m sure they could help but it is over an hour away. The soonest appointment I could get to see my spine doctor is December 21st. My current pain medications are as followed: Gabapentin 1200 milligrams 3 times a day Tramadol 50 milligrams 3 times a day as needed Naproxen 500 milligrams twice a day Acetaminophen 650 milligrams 3 times a day as needed I m also on 200 milligrams of nortriptyline for both pain and sleep.
