Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
How Can Burning Sensation In The Head Due To Shingles Be Treated?
My husband has the shingles on the left side of his head. He has medicine Acyclovir Ointment and Acyclovir Oral Tablets but his head is burning. What else can we use decrease the burning? The shingles started on Monday, May 23, and he started medicines on Tuesday, May 24. He also has shingles on the outside of his ear.
Continue the medications prescribed to him, to reduce the discomfort due to pain and burning, he can take anti-inflammatory drugs like Ibuprofen, narcotic medications or analgesics, ointment calamine or Lidocaine (numbing gels) to apply locally under the supervision of the treating PCP.
Applying cold, wet compress is effective. Take care of his diet and medications, so that there are no complications (eye damage, pneumonia, brain/spinal cord inflammation).
Hope I have answered your query.
