How Can Burning Sensation During Urination Despite Taking Macrobid For UTI Be Treated?

My husband has a UTI and has had Macrobid prescribed for him and has been taking it for 3 full days. He s not feeling much better, severe burning when he urinates. Any suggestions please??? Also, they said his urine was positive for nitrates, but no other bacteria was found.

Hello

After reading the medical history of your husband and the results of urine analysis, I can say that your husband could have UTI mainly prostatitis (which is the infection of prostate). Usually infection starts to resolve after 48 hours of starting antibiotics. Since your husband is not improving, I suggests that he should do urine culture as well. He may have a specific bacteria which is resistant to the antibiotic that he is taking. By doing the urine culture we can know the bacteria and give the right antibiotic for it. Moreover, your husbant should do a CT scan to figure out the cause of the infection which could be due to stones in the bladder or sometimes enlargement of the prostate.
