How Can Blisters And Itching On The Neck Be Treated?

Hi. I ve gotten severe radiation burns through my throat cancer treatment. Blisters, itching and pain. Irish skin. My neck is the targeted area. 1 1/2 weeks into a total of 7. Due for another today. I ve ordered skin cream with lidocaine. Won t be here till tomorrow. I m thinking to call off treatment till next week as to heal some. 5 days a week as scheduled. Silvadene seams to be the cream of choice. Many related cases I ve read about and all agree it s the way to go. Your thoughts? Thanks Jay

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Silver Sulfadiazine, Silvadene, is used to help and prevent wound infection in serious burns. It prevents bacterial growth in the burned skin. It is very effective in radiation burns and is cost effective as well. Apply Silvadene using sterile techniques 1-2 times daily, with sterile gloves, and spread the cream 1-2 millimeters thick.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Suzana Zharri
