How Can An Ischemic Stroke Be Treated?

My mother just had an ischemic stroke last Friday. She arrived at the hospital quickly (within a couple hours) from first symptoms. She was given the tPA drug. Unfortunately, it did not seem to work. She is at a smaller hospital (New Bern, NC) and unfortunately there are no Neurologists on staff. Should we expect and push to have the hospital bring in a Neurologist to evaluate her situation, condition, and treatment options since that is there specialty? If so, how do you recommend getting that pushed through?

I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Sorry to hear of the sad incidence. I can understand your concern, however to be very honest, stroke is something that can be managed without a neurologist if there is no confusion of the diagnosis. As she has received TPA ,that what the latest treatment, so I do not thing if presence of the neurologist would be necessary. However if their is diagnostic un-certainty , them definitely yes . I think the doctor can better understand when they would need to ask a neurologist, and they would hopefully do it themselves. But most of the times strokes can be managed without it.
