Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
My husband was in garden couple hours ago picking corn. I had boots on yesterday and he laughed at me. Comes upstairs and says he got bit by tick. Pull pants down, big rash size of lemon on rear. Was going to wait and I told him to go to medimerge immediately don t be embarrassed. Does it cause a rash immediately like that or do you think was there longer. He says he did not notice yesterday when showering. Our next door neighbor when I was a kid, she ignored and now in wheelchair, brain issues. My mom too bit but got antibiotics immediately. A little nervous till he gets back. Does he need tetanus? Other advice or what to look for. Just got on line and saw article about bourbon virus.
Well, most of the times the tick bite does not cause any transmission of serious infections in humans and tend to cause localised allergic reaction..
But at times can cause severe life threatening symptoms, so in case if he is experiencing any symptoms like breathing difficulty, swelling of lymph nodes, muscle of joint pain, neck stiffness, fever etc then immediately consult an Emergency room..
Although localised allergic reaction will resolve gradually and is nt a matter of serious concern if it is not spreading further.. For now first of all have a close look at the bite site and if the tick is not attached to the skin it is good or else you should gently remove the tick using tweezers. You can apply Calamine lotion to control the itching and do cool compresses or ice packs.. Take Benadryl to relief the symptoms..
If it continue to worsen immediately consult an Emergency room..
Hope this helps..
Regards.
