How Can A Wound On The Lower Leg Be Treated?

i fell on to a metal grating, which put a slight cut on my leg below my knee. It bruised and swelled up a little above the cut on the outside of my knee. I can put total weight on it and can move my knee. Where the bruises are, i have an asleep sensation from the shin to above the knee on the outside of leg. Should I get it xrayed?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

* The presentation of narrated symptoms suggest that there is inflammation changes with possible nerve effect giving asleep sensation.

* My suggestions to get better faster
- Immediately consult your family doc or PCP and get an injection of Tetanus toxoid as the injury was through metal.
- Keep the part clean with antiseptic liquid.
- Ice application over the affected part helps great.
- Let the consultant decide need of x-ray after your assessment.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
