The ER staff did stitches but didn t give me much followup care instructions. I can t get into see a surgeon for 2 more weeks. Pediatrician wasn t much help either. Do I use diluted peroxide or neosporin
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.
Some pieces of advice that I can give to you are: 1) Wash your hands with soap and hot water, then dry with a clean towel to reduce the chances of infecting your wound. Gently clean the wound with soap and cool water. Warm water on an open wound will cause it to start bleeding again. Do not use hydrogen peroxide because it can damage skin tissues. 2) When the cut is clean, apply an antibiotic ointment directly to the wound. Place a sterile wound dressing over the wound and make sure it stays in place. 3) To prevent and reduce swelling, place an ice pack onto the wound for 10 to 20 minutes, 3 to 4 times a day.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi
