How Can A Spider Bite Be Treated?

Yes, my daughter got bite by a brown recluse spider and she went to the hospital and the hospital said yes she had the markings of a spider bite. They gave her meds and advised her to come back should the area become hardened or pussey. She had to return to the hospital this afternoon and they are now telling her that there are no such thing as a brown recluse spider in florida and so they are treating her like they would anyother infection and they want to pack the area in gauze. Does this sound right?

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Home care for a spider bite is washing the area properly, applying ice packs to reduce inflammation, keeping the area clean and be watchful for excessive inflammation or infection. Usually antibiotic/anti allergic/anti inflammatory drugs are given for infection. If any severe inflammation or infection present, then it needs immediate vigorous treatment.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
