How Can A Painful Varicose Vein Behind The Leg Be Treated?

I appear to have a varicose vein in the back of my leg that has started hurting two weeks after a fall. It seems the fall aggravated it (I fell fairly hard on my knee). Is there something I can apply to ease the pain instead of having an invasive procedure? I also have a condition called Lipoedema. I m not sure if that complicates it.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

Here are my guidelines for pain relief:
- Keep the affected leg elevated over the support of 3-4 pillows.
- Apply ice over the tender area.
- Avoid direct pressure bearing.
- Take tablet Ibuprofen if no history of drug sensitivity.
- Regular follow up with your doctor.

Thanks.

Regards.
