How Can A Painful Bruise On The Thigh Be Treated?

Hi, I took a nasty fall from a ladder about 4 months ago. I landed on my right side and the border of a table hit my right outer thigh. I had a burning sensation and a lot of pain. Immediately I put ice and elevated my leg through the night. I also applied arnica gel and stayed away from exercise for a few months after my fall. My bruise was bright red, about 4 inches wide, then it went through the normal color changes...blue/purple and then green and yellow. However, there is a part of my bruise which has not entirely cleared up. There still seems to be a dark shadow that has faded quite a bit since my fall, but it s still not completely gone. I have a dent in that area that feels tender and hurts when I touch it. However, my range of motion was not affected and I feel no pain except for when I lean on it or accidentally bump it. It is not swollen or red. It s just flat and there seems to be a shadow left over. Is this part of the normal healing process? And will it take a couple more months before I m healed?

General Surgeon 's  Response
You did have contusion to the muscles and soft tissues of the right thigh due to the fall. Possibly you also had developed an hematoma in the muscle plain or subcutaneous tissues. The contusion is healing, however the area which now has a discoloration and tenderness could be the area of resolving hematoma. As you correctly did, please give rest to the right lower limb till complete healing of the soft tissue injury. Please only commence exercising, once all the discoloration and pain has completely resolved.
