How Can A Painful Boil In The Vagina Be Treated?

Hi I have a painful boil on the lip of my vagina on one side. It started out smaller 1cm but in the last couple of days has gotten bigger, about 3cm. It does not at this stage appear to have a head, but it hard and painful and the 3cm spreads out underneath it. We had a couple of heat wave days in the last week that got up to 38-39 degrees and no air conditioner inside the house, just a fan. So it seems to me this boil might have been caused by the extreme heat, and sitting in extreme heat. What can I do to get immediate relief from this? And how should it be treated? Thanks Marilyn

General & Family Physician 's  Response
THi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.
It looks like infected BArtholini cyst... Things like an infection, thick mucus, or swelling can block a Bartholin gland duct and cause a cyst. Some Bartholin gland cysts go away without treatment.

You can take a nonprescription pain medicine such as ibuprofen (Advil or Motrin, for example) to relieve pain. To help healing, soak the area in a shallow, warm bath, or a sitz bath. Don't have sex while a Bartholin cyst is healing.
If the cyst is infected, it may break open and start to heal on its own after 3 to 4 days. But if the cyst is painful, your doctor may drain it. You may also need to take antibiotics to treat the infection.

Wish you good health. Kindly regards
