How Can A Monkey Scratch Be Treated?

Hello, we are from.the UK and are currently holidaying in Thailand. Yesterday we went to a mangrove forest where a bunch of macaque monkeys jumped onto our boat and climbed over us. I am a bit concerned that a monkey walked on the exposed skin of my 8 year old daughter who has exzema and therefore scratched and picked skin (she is constantly picking at the skin on her knees and inside of elbows). Do I need to worry and should she get rabies treatment? I would appreciate any advice asap please. Thank you.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

* As per the standard WHO guidelines to handle the monkey scratch case , till there is no active bleeding from the submucosa, there is no need of any anti rabies treatment for her.

* I recommend to keep the area clean with antiseptic liquid, dry. Symptomatic control with anti histamine and local soothing agents to heal faster.

Hope I have answered your query.
Let me know if I can assist you further.
