How Can A Lumbar Compression Fracture Be Treated?

Hi! İ was diagnosed lumbar 5 vertebrae fracture (% 20 compression) because of a fall from 28 feet. İ have no neurologic loss. i can walk little bit and sit. İ am told i should rest for two months and but doctor did not talk clear about my sport life after recovery. İ am really down. İ wonder will i able to run again after full recovery? İ am really afraid. Thanks much.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

The initial recovery period requires bed rest for desired 10-12 weeks as per the evaluation by a consultant spine surgeon.

Supportive measures are calcium supplements and diet with balanced nutrition. Later on, once the healing has taken place, a gradual start-up of sports activity can be done under the guidance of the doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
