How Can A Large Boil On The Inner Buttock Be Treated?

I had a very large boil on my inner buttocks and I popped it myself. I can t tell if it s ingrown hairs or what. I noticed that the next day I had another one right above it, then later that night I got one on the opposite side. When I popped the one on the opposite side a small hard white ball came out with a hair in it. None of the others had hair and they are still filling up with clear liquid and must be relieved of the pressure at least once a day to tolerate them. Is this something that I need to see a doctor for or can I treat them a better way at home?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,
Thank you for your query.
I believe you should see your doctor right away.

This seems to be an infection and needs to be assessed for extent and severity. Based on the symptoms, I would like to rule pilonidal sinus and abscess.
*do you have any fever?
* any tenderness, redness or warmth in the area surrounding the boils?
*do you have any other medical issues or take any medications?

I recommend :
-a general surgeon consult
-blood tests (complete blood count, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, liver and kidney function tests, blood glucose panel)
- a CT scan of the affected area may be necessary, depending on the clinical findings.

Based on these a treatment plan will be made..
In the meantime:
- keep area clean and as dry as possible.
-avoid touching or popping any boils
-keep a sterile gauze or cotton to collect any discharge/pus and change this frequently.
-avoid friction and pressure over this area.

Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.
I urge you to seek medical attention right away.

Wish you good health
