How Can A Heat Stroke Be Prevented?

I recently had what appeared to be a mild case of heat stroke-- intense headache, cramps, numbness in extremities, dizziness, .... This was Saturday after participating in a sports tournament outside in Florida. I am feeling better but wondering: 1. What is the best treatment/ recovery if it was to happen again? 2. What do I do to make sure it does not happen again? 3. Is there anything I should be doing days later to recuperate my body? Thanks!

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The best way to prevent a heat stroke is to keep yourself hydrated. Keep your head covered when you are going to spend significant time in the sun. When someone develops a heat stroke, the core temperature of the body increases. It is important to bring down the temperature of the body by immersing oneself in cold water. Drink lots of fluids and take rest.

I hope that answers your question. If you have any further questions please feel free to write.

Thank you and wishing you good health.
