How Can A Diaper Rash Be Treated?

Hello Dr. Rynne, My son was prescribed augmentin es 600 for his ear infection and after 4 days of using this drug I have noticed he has diaper rash. It has been 8 days he is taking augmentin and the doctor recommended taking it for 10 days. Can I stop augmentin or is there anything I can do for the rash before it get severe (apart from desitin and aquaphore diaper cream which I use regularly)? Thanks and regards, Fahimeh

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It is unlikely that the augmentin is causing a diaper rash. If the augmentin was causing a reaction, it would be more wide spread.

Continue the augmentin for all the ten days. For the rash, you could use calamine lotion. Continue with destin and aquaphore diaper cream as usual. It should resolve soon.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Pranav Balakrishnan
