Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
deep knife wound between thumb and fore finger lots of blood but wrapped tightly, and bleeding stopped, cut was surgically neat so I m not sure if I will need stiches, edges have already approximated still have cap refill and all fingers warm to touch, only problem is pain and throbbing do I need to do more?
Generally, such a wound would take a few days to heal. Mostly it only needs to be kept clean. This can be done by daily wash twice of the wound with saline or clean water and then covering wit clean and loose dressing. This is all that is needed most of the times. If you find any discharge or gross swelling then you should see the doctor as sometimes antibiotics are needed. Make sure you have been vaccinated against tetanus. You can use some painkiller like ibuprofen for a few days for the pain.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Mahboob Ur Rahman,
