How Can A Bruise Behind The Knee Be Treated?

My 21 yr old son just showed me a large bruise (grapefruit size) behind his right knee. There is also a visible and palpable hard lump in the middle of the bruise (quarter size). He has had no injury. He said the bruise has gotten better since he first noticed it two weeks ago. He thinks it s from sitting on a chair with pressure under his knee. Is that possible?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hi,

It is nothing but a collection of blood underneath the skin that has developed after a fall or blunt trauma. He might have hit the arm somewhere unknowingly that might have developed to bruise. The nodule in the center may be a small hematoma. Nothing much to worry and it will settle by itself. If the bruises persist or in case of spread of the lesion you can consult a physician and get evaluated.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
