How Can Wegener S Disease Be Treated?

Patient has been diagnosed with Wegener s disease a few years ago. Symptoms affected his lungs and he has been properly treated for it by his Rheumatologist. He has no problems breathing and acc. to his doctor the imaging test results look very good. However, patient is now experiencing new symptoms/problem in his nasal membranes: crusting and and difficulty blowing his nose, also his taste and smell is seriously affected. ETN appointment scheduled for next month 2/16/18. Patient would like to refrain from taking aggressive drugs in order to avoid possible serious side affects. Any suggestions?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

Wegener's granulomatosis is mainly involving the upper respiratory tract, and it is an autoimmune disorder so it can be treated with steroid and cyclophosphamide drugs.

But for this problem, you should be treated symptomatically, and ENT opinion should help very well.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Bhadresh Lakhani
