How Can Proteus Mirabilis Infection Be Prevented?

my father has a positive sputum culture for proteus and has a picc line and is taking iv aminoglycoside and ceftazidime. He has been discharged home from the hospital. Is he contagious? What kind of precautions do people around him need to take and what kind of precautions does he need to take.,

Proteus mirabilia rarely cause respiratory Infection. it is normal flora in human intestine it may move to urinary tract and it may cause Infection like urethritis or pyelonephritis etc.. P. mirabilis can also, though less common, colonize the lungs. This is the result of infected hospital breathing equipment and causes pneumonia. Symptoms for pneumonia include fever, chills, chest pain, and cough. Use face mask while coughing, isolation up to 3-5 days.Proteus mirabilis infections can be treated with broad-spectrum penicillins or cephalosporins except in severe cases.
