How Can I Differentiate Between A Fourth Generation Rapid Test And A Laboratory Fourth Generation Test?

Hello doctors, I would like to know how to differentiate a fourth generation rapid test and a laboratory fourth generation test. I know that some laboratories take samples from vein and they use a rapid test with this blood. Usually, they use inmunocromatography as method. Is this only a rapid test? What happened when they take sample blood with a test with antibody+ antigen p24 by chemiluminescence as method? Is this considered a rapid test as well? Thanks in advance

Hello,

For p24 or HIV testing, initially a rapid test based on immunochromatography is done. This is screening test and is sensitive test. In next phase test based on chemiluminescence is done to test for antigen and antibodies. Western blot is the fourth generation test which is confirmatory test for viral RNA.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
