How Can HDL Levels Be Increased?

I am 75 and have 151 cholesterol, I am 5 ft. 4 inches and weigh 123 pounds. I walk approximately 2.2 miles 6-7 days a week in 40 minutes. I am on Lisinopril, my BMI is 20, but my body fat percentage they say is 42 and HDL is 24. What do I need to do to raise my HDL thus lower my body fat percentage?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,

HDL cholesterol level should be maintained high because is considered good cholesterol. A reading of less than 40 mg/dL is considered a major risk factor for heart disease. A reading from 41 mg/dL to 59 mg/dL is considered borderline low. The optimal reading for HDL levels is of 60 mg/dL or higher.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi,
