How Can EDD Be Calculated When Having Irregular Periods?
Hi There, I would like to ask on how to compute the EDD if I do have irregular periods. If my last period for example is 2nd week Sept 2014 and had a contact 3rd week of October 2014 and 3rd week of November 2014. Also I had a transvaginal ultrasound that states I am 8 weeks pregnant. So if it 8 weeks, does it mean my November contact was the one that got me pregnant? Looking forward for your answer. Thank you
EDD- Estimated due date is usually calculated from the first day of last menstrual cycle. But in case of individuals with irregular periods, it gestational age can be calculated only using ultrasonogram. If your are 8 weeks pregnant means, add another two to three weeks that is your last menstrual cycle which was between 10 to 11 weeks earlier must be the LMP. Discuss with your obstetrician to confirm the last menstrual period.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Pradeepraj, General & Family Physician
