How Can ADD In A Child Be Treated?

Hello, My 10 year old son has been screened by the school. From the surveys we all filled out, they state he may have ADD. My son has a hard time keeping on task with school work. I m not sure about any medications that mess with this growing brain. What are the most common side effects with children his age on medication? What medications are right for him?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service.
I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

It is possible your son may be suffering from ADHD. However, other psychiatric problems may have similar symptoms. A complete medical history of his problem will be needed to confirm diagnosis and plan treatment. I will advise you see a psychiatrist for evaluation, treatment, and follow-up. If diagnosis confirmed, response on treatment is always very good. Just be calm and see the doctor.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Mbuomboh Veranso
