How Are Coughing Fits Managed In A Patient With Bronchiectasis?
My wife of 59 has been diagnosed with bronchiectasis and has had all the tests eg xray,cat scans,blood tests and sputun tests but she still each day coughs up flem or sputun -- no one will give her any medication to help dry up this mucus as they have told her they will only give her something if she gets really sick -- can you please offer some advice as she is emberassed each time she has a coughing fit which at this stage has not affected her breating -- thank you

Bronchiectasis is a condition that causes normal lung secretions to get collected within the lungs. These collected secretions cause coughing. Yes your wife's doctor would prescribe medications mostly if those secretions get infected and cause severe symptoms. A Mucolytic agent like Tab. Mucinex will be beneficial. The tablet can be taken once daily with or without food. Make sure she is not allergic to the ingredient. Take care :)
