Hi,I am Dr. Gopal Goel (Orthopaedic Surgeon). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Hi, I just left a walking clinic and found that I fractured the proximal phalanx 5th toe and got a temporary cast and crutches while I await to see an orthopedic. My questions are:
1. If I had no pain while using an open toe shoe can this only be treated with a cast? 2. How long does this cast process takes?
I'm only on my first 24 hours on this temporary cast and depression is kicking. Any help would be appreciated.
Immobilisation with strapping or cast is important for fracture healing. For 5 th phalanges fracture after 4-6 weeks healing should be complete and then you can start physiotherapy.
Crutches are given so that you do not put weight and there is early healing.
If you see any signs of infection like raised local temperature, increase in pain then you should consult your doctor again.
Hope this answers your query. If you have additional questions or follow up queries then please do not hesitate in writing to us. I will be happy to answer your queries.
Wishing you good health.
Take care
