Hi, I Have Been Dealing With Neck And Shoulder, Muscular

Hi, I have been dealing with neck and shoulder, muscular pain and tension headaches, and neck stiffness for about two years. I play violin professionally and the technique required for my right hand, bowing arm can sometimes bring on the symptoms, as well as some of the machines at the gym, though I don't lift beyond 20-40 for my upper body. I also usually get a tension headache near the time of my period. I am 5'4, my mother is 4'10, and she has degenerative disc disease and has had neck surgery/cadaver vertebra. I have been waking up with a very stiff neck for the past several weeks. I received some advice from a physical therapist, an exercise suggestion to strengthen my anterior neck muscles and he said one of my 'neck joints was very stiff.' He did some manipulations that brought temporary relief. Working on the computer seems to agitate the pain and stiffness, and it's somewhat difficult for me to look left and right in my car when entering traffic. I would like to know if you recommend that I see a physical therapist, self-treat with ice or heat, perform certain exercises, or perhaps get a screening for degenerative disc disease...thank you for your help!
