Hello, my grandmother passed away a few months ago, she lived alone and was found on the floor of her home, she did not appear to have been in any distress. I did observe her body before they removed her from the home and other family members said the position she was found in is the position in which she sleeps (face down, head to the right with one arm in a natural position and the other arm under her body and across under her chest). When she was found there was blood which had come out of her nose and stained the carpet. No sign of struggle or distress and a natural/sleeping look on her face. She was in the living room on the carpet though, as if she mistook the area in front of the tv for her bed. Medical examiner quickly ruled it as a heart attack and mentioned he believed she had not been properly taking her blood pressure meds. We did not do an autopsy. I'm wondering what reason there may have been for blood to come out of one nostril only at the time of death. And for her to have been in a sleeping position. The bleeding definitely occurred after she was already laying in that position as the blood went straight from her nose to the carpet in a small pool (golf ball size). Any insight or thoughts would be helpful. We can't turn back time but I think often of whether it may have been something else besides a heart attack. She was 84, took blood pressure and cholesterol meds. No history of disease, sickness or hospitalization. Exercised regularly and good diet as far as I knew. Thank you for any information you may be able to offer.
