Having Frequent Bowel Movement. Mentally Feels Weak. What Are The Risks?
My father is 82 years old and suffering from uncontrollable bowel movement for last one year. His health has been deteriorating a lot and he is now mentally became very weak. Almost all the time bowels happens to pass out of anus . Though he can feel it but not in a position to control it. Please advise what could be done to cure or to restrict a bit this embarrassing condition.
Hello,Biplabbbc,
Sorry to hear about your elderly father's problem. If he has had this problem
for over a year , I hope you have already taken him to the doctors for proper
testing. Did the condition start very suddenly or gradual ? That would be vvery
important. Was he on any antibiotics for any infection before this started ?
Did he do any travel prior to the onset of diarrhea ? Has he been taking any
laxatives to regulate his bowels ? He needs to have his stool tested for infectious
bacteria.Any blood in the stool ? All these are very important. Make sure to check
all the medications he is taking. If he has lost a lot of weight , again he needs
to see the doctor who can do blood tests and your father may even need an
examination of his colon through a scope by a specialist.
I wish him well.
