Having Diarrhea, Swelling In The Throat. Need Medical Attention?

I have had diahhera for about 5 days now. My throat feels a little swollen too. I don t have any pains except for when I feel like I have to use the restroom. It feels like a lot of pressure. Two of my friends have also mentioned having diahhera but I don t know if they still do. Should I wait a few more days before I go see a doctor?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi there,

You might be having a case of viral gastroenteritis. I would suggest you rehydrate yourself by drinking lot of fluids, water, rice gruel(kanji), bland soups. Include curd in your diet as it is rich in good bacteria, lactobacilli.
In case your stool is greenish, with blood and mucus, foul smelling, gastroenteritis might be bacterial and you might require antibiotics.
Please try salt water gargling three times a day if you have a sore throat.
If you are not feeling better in 2 days, I would suggest you visit your physician and get a stool examination done.

Hope this helps.

Regards,
Dr. Divya Kuttikrishnan
