Have Tingling Through Left Side Of Face And Ears Popping. Advice?

Hi doctor. I have had tingling through the left side of my face and in particular my cheek and lip area for quite some time. I also sometimes have a feeling of electricity traveling through that side of my head and occasional sinus discomfort (or in the cheek near my nose anyhow). Just the last day or so my ears keep popping too and the tingle is more constant. I have not seen a doc yet as previously it would come and go. Should I seek advice and what could this be?

hi there, your description seems to suggest that you are suffering from trigeminal neuralgia which is inflammation or irritation of the trigeminal nerve which is causing these symptoms. It is quite a painful condition and tho' cannot be cured but some relief can be had.The anticonvulsant carbamazepine is the first line treatment; second line medications include baclofen, lamotrigine, oxcarbazepine, phenytoin, gabapentin, and sodium valproate. Uncontrolled trials have suggested that clonazepam and lidocaine may be effective.[18]
Low doses of some antidepressants such as amitriptyline are thought to be effective in treating neuropathic pain.
Surgical options are also available and you should take the advise of your consultant to ensure that you receive the therapy that is best suited to you.Hope you get some relief, take care.
