Have Red Rash With Dry Peeling Of Skin Starting From Thumbs Which Is Spreading

I started taking Tramadol Hcl tabs 50mg after my pacemaker operation. Since Sept. 2013 I have had a red rash with dry peeling skin on my left hand, starting with my left thumb, forefinger index and ring fingers, and is now progressing up my wrist and arm. Anti fungal athlete foot cream and hydrocortisone cream have only dried it out more, but not provided healing. I have a first appointment with a dermatologist on January 29th. I've had MS since 2005, and occasional seizures , most recent was October 2013.

Dermatologist 's  Response
Hi. Thanks for posting your concern at HCM.

I would keep a possibility of fungal infection, because it is unilateral and localised.

If i was you treating doctor i would have asked you to apply a topical antifungal cream like either clotrimazole OR terbinafine cream twice daily for 4 weeks.

An oral antifungal, either fluconazole once weekly OR Terbinafine once daily for a month would help in better control of the infection.

Since your appointment is just about to come up i would advice that you get a prescription for these medicines after getting a confirmatory diagnosis with your treating dermatologist.

Take care
regards
