Have Pain While Swallowing, Sore Neck And Yellow Mucus Even After Taking Antibiotics For Bronchitis And Sinus Infection

I have been to the doctors 2x in the past week and a half. I was given antibiotics for bronchitis and a sinus infection, however I went back to the doctor again because I am still coughing up yellow/green and sometimes brownish mucus, and my right side of my neck was sore. Now today both left and right side are extremely painful. My left side is swollen and so are the glands in both sides. It is very painful to swallow and open my mouth, and the pain is mainly on the left side. Any possible ideas or explanations?

Hello,
Thanks for the query to H.C.M. Forum.
I would come up with these possibilities for this type of right side pain as well on left side ,these includes.
1 Asthmatic allergic bronchitis ,as in this type of infection usually there develops cough with yellowish sputum ( mucus).Diagnosis can be confirmed by physical as well as clinical examination .Usually don't find any finding in lungs at initial stage.
2 Bronchiectasis , diagnosis can be confirmed by X ray chest with MRI .
3 Tuberculosis can be confirmed by X ray chest .
4 Streptococcus infection with consolidation on left side .Diagnosis can be confirmed by X ray chest.
In my opinion consult a physician and get his opinion.
Good luck.

Hi,

It seems that antibiotic are not responding properly. Go for throat swab culture and sensitivity test.
You can increase medication from antibiotics alone to antihistamines and decongestants.
You can gargle thrice daily by adding betadine gargle solution to warm water.
Also you consult your ENT surgeon to check out if its tonsillitis and if there is any pus formation.

Regards
