Have Pain On Knee While Bending. Treatment?

Hello, I am 19 years old and have begun to have pains in the top left side of my left knee when I bend down. It is fine at every other time. It only seems to hurt really badly when I bend down or when I perform squat exercises and for the next couple of days after the workout. I have rested it and avoided exercise for 3 weeks and returned with light exercising but it the pain has returned. What could this be and how can it be treated or prevented?

Hi,
Welcome to the forum. You might be suffering from patellar tendinitis or chondromalacia patellae, which causes pain in your knee when you bend your knee. This type of knee pain related to overuse or physical activity.
Slight modifications in your life style can help.
- Do regular knee exercises (quadriceps and hamstrings).
- Always warm up before exercising and cool down afterwards. Stretch your quadriceps and hamstrings.
- Lose weight if you are overweight. Every pound that you are overweight puts about 5 extra pounds of pressure on your knee cap when you go up and down stairs.
- If you have flat feet, try special shoe inserts and arch supports (orthotics).
- Make sure your running shoes are made well, fit well, and have good cushioning
I hope this information has been both informative and helpful for you.

Hi
It could be IT band friction syndrome which is caused by overuse without training or due to some other reason.however in 90% cases it can be corrected without surgery.start stretching exercise of your IT band and hamstring muscle ( back thigh)...avoid running and cycling as of now .PROPER squatting exercise can be done to strengthen quadriceps muscle(front thigh).you will be ok.
