Have Discomfort While And After Urinating, Discharge. Tested For Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, Negative. Suggestions?

Hello,

I am a 22 y/o hispanic male. About 4 weeks ago, I started having discomfort while and after urinating and discharge. I saw a doctor, and got tested for chlamydia, gonorrhea, and a urinalysis. Everything came out negative, but symptoms persisted even after one 1g dose of azythromycin. However, it changed the urine from cloudy to normal, and the discharge (after getting worse) finally stopped completely. I went back to the doctor when the discomfort urinating continued, and he prescribed a 2 week course of doxycycline. The tenderness in the urethra, unfortunately, still continues, especially when urinating for a long time, or when erect. What can I do!?

Hi and thanks for the query,
I would suggest a reevaluation. This is what is chronic urethritis . However, a urethral swab, urine culture and sensitivity tests could be useful. Usually, three anti biotics are usually associated in the treatment. Doxycycline as was prescribed to you is one of them. then an injectable third generation cepapholosporine like ceftriazone and a immidazole like metronidazole flagyl.
Your doctor will be better placed to make the appropriate prescriptions.
Consulting your urologist could be very helpful.
Thanks and best regards,
Luchuo, MD.
