Have Cerebral Artery Distribution Stroke. MRI Shows Small Vessel Disease. Meaning?

I am a 52 year old woman in very good health. I don t smoke , drink, am of normal weight and do not have diabetes or high blood pressure . I was diagnosed in July with a right middle cerebral artery distribution stroke and am still having some lingering side effects. My MRI showed mild to moderate diffuse involutional change and Minimal periventricular hypodensity suggests small vessel disease. My neurologist is very difficult to talk to and so I am switching doctors. In the meantime, can you help me make sense of this? My neurologist never mentioned these radiological findings until I requested my medical records. Thanks!

Hi,
Thank you for posting your query.
First of all, I would like to reassure you that your MRI brain findings are not serious and there is no need to worry about them.
Small vessel disease refers to small areas of brain with reduced blood supply and denotes a minor stroke. Therefore, I expect you to make complete recovery.
Also, we need to find out the risk factors for stroke in you. If not checked, please get cholesterol and homocysteine in the blood tested.
Please continue medications such as aspirin and statins.
I hope it helps.

Please get back if you require any additional information.

Best wishes,
