Have Blood Pressure. Taking Metoprolol. Felling Dizzy And Vomiting. Is There Any Alternate Medicine Fore This?

My doctor put me metoprolol because I have blood pressure that fluctuates she said it was due to stress I have been taking 50 mg once a day recently I had a bad reaction to it and want to stop taking it the meds made me so dizzy I was vomiting I don't have a virus because I did not take it today and feel very good I thought it was a coincidence so I tried taking it again. I gott the same reaction . When I don't take it I feel good but was concerned about stopping cold turkey. Right now I don't have a PCP physcian until June 1st so I need medical advice I called the pharmacy and they told me if I felt better not taking it don't or cut the pill in half I just need advice until I see my new doctor. My email address YYYY@YYYY

Dear patient,

Thanks for your health concerns; indeed if you have been taking a beta blocker (this type of medication) for more than 4 weeks, you should not stop it abruptly but rather make a taper over a week; you should contact the original prescibing doctor who can tell you the specific dosages to discontinue the metoprolol over the course of 1 week, until you see a new doctor and explore another of the many alternatives to treat high blood pressure
Truly yours
