Have Angioedema, Have Swelling Of Tongue. Had Allergic Reaction To Losartan. Taking Pepcid. Is This Common?
I have angioedema, had allergic reaction to a med Losartan/hct which I had been taking for years, had swelling of tongue, went to ED, given IV Benadryl which stopped the swelling,, was told to d/c the Lorsartan, which I have done was given hctz 25 mg in its place. was told to take Pepcid 20mg. as I was told to take Benadryl 25 mg 2 every 6 hrs. all his happened thur last week, after takingthe Pepcid pill, I had vise like constriction in back and chest, short time later hives broke out around mouth etc.That was the one and only Pepcid I took, is this a common reaction for Pepcid?

Hi these are not common with the drug. Stop taking Pepcid since you dont have any gastric symptoms and also the lesion looks like allergic. Continue Benadryl which is given for the hypersensitivity reaction and HCTZ is a diuretic for hypertension(take in morning). Report this to your doctor. Have adequate regular sleep, plenty of fluids, regular outdoor exercises for your wellbeing. Hope I answered your question. Consult your doctor for further management.

The ER Docs found it correct losartan in angioedema patient is not a good choice and good it replaced by hct .
Coming to Pepcid / famotidine , Usually we will not see side effects with pepcid . some times head ache , dizziness , constipation may be seen . still it is better to review with the Family physician .
