Have Hashimoto S Thyroiditis. Difficulty Swallowing And Discomfort In Neck. Elbow Pain, Finger Numbness. Associated Pain?
I am a 52 year-old female recently diagnosed with Hashimotos thyroiditis. I have difficulty swallowing and discomfort on either side of my neck. My endocrinologist has put me on 88 mcg levothyroxine and 2.5 mcg liothyronone. My tsh is 2.04, T4F is 1.3 and thyroid antibodies are 686. She also sent me for a blood test for gluten sensitivity which I do not have the results on yet. I have been having muscle weakness in my legs and pain in my right groin. Also hip pain. I have also had some vitamin D deficiency. I had a tri-level ACDF surgery at c4/5 - c5/6 one year ago due to degenerative disc disease with nerve compression and continue to suffer with neck and shoulder pain. Also have pain in elbows and wrists and sometimes numbness in fingers. Could all of these symptoms be associated with the Hashimotos? I feel terrible....
Hello and welcome to HCM, The Hashimotos thyroiditis is associated with hypothyroiditis, pain in the thyroid region, and presence of antibodies against thyroid tissue. Hashimotos thyroiditis can be associated with other autoimmune diseases like celiac disease, rheumatoid arthritis, systemic lupus erythematosus, etc. However, the neck and shoulder pain is not associated with thyroiditis. This pain is due to degenerative changes in the inter-vertebral discs of cervical region. This condition is called spondylitis. The pain in shoulder, neck and upper limb is due to nerve compression. This pain can be relieved by exercises. You can consult a physiotherapist for exercises.
